So many luxe fabrics, so little time. You guys know how much I love mixing textures. It’s one of the hottest trends this fall, an easy way to add interest to your outfits, and very easy to pull off. It also helps you stay warm during the colder months, while still looking chic…which is always the goal right? So, in today’s HOLIDAY FASHION post, I am showing you one of my favorite outfits, mixing rich metallic with cozy wool and sleek suede. Throw on a pair of statement earrings, and you are SET.
HOLIDAY FASHION: HOW TO MIX TEXTURES
RACHEL ZOE METALLIC SHIRT AND WOOL SKIRT
I am OBSESSED with this Rachel Zoe outfit from Gus Mayer. I wore it to the Linly Heflin show last month and have LIVED in it since. The best part? This top looks so cute with your favorite cropped, frayed jeans and high ankle boots or black leather skinnies and velvet booties. You can also rock the skirt with a chunky knit and sneakers for a more casual look. The quality is excellent, and the fit is true to size. The skirt was a little big in my hips, but that was an easy fix. For reference, I am wearing a size small in the top and a size 0 in the skirt. To order, you can shop the post or email Brittany at Gus Mayer (brittany@ gusmayer.com).
THOSE BOOTS THOUGH
Ok, yes, these boots were expensive. BUT, I wear them several times a week, they are super comfy, and oh so chic. They are by Stuart Weitzman and again, fit try to size. If you take care of them, these will look good for YEARS. I have owned my gray pair for 4 years, and they are still in excellent condition. If you don’t want to make the splurge, I found a perfect replica that are less than $100.
TIPS FOR MIXING TEXTURES
- Stick to the same color palette. It would be too much to mix colors, patters, AND textures. Keep it simple.
- Mix light with heavy. The light metallic shirt balances out the heavy wool perfectly. Try silk and leather for another sleek combo or even leather and lace for an edgy/girly combo
- Start with one statement piece. In this instance, my shirt is the statement piece. I chose that first, then worked in the skirt.
