Happy Wednesday babes! I hope everyone is having a wonderful week! I have been in Tampa this week for work but also had the opportunity to meet up with two of my FAVORITE bloggers. So. Much. Fun. EXPERIMENT WITH TEXTURE…I DARE YOU

You guys know I LOVE sequins. I mean, my motto is “if you want to wear sequins to brunch, then by all means, rock those sequins to brunch!” However, this holiday season I challenge you to step out of your comfort zone and experiment with different textures. Read on to see exactly what I’m talking about!

DO LEATHER AND VELVET GO TOGETHER

Luxe velvet and shiny patent leather (I like to call it glossy leather) are both very on trend right now and are PERFECT for holiday! Yes, you can mix fabrics. Especially these two fabrics. This an easy way to draw interest without necessarily sparkling. If you want to really try something new, try some leather patent shoes.

WHAT IS PATENT LEATHER

Let’s talk leather goods for a second. And I don’t mean the leather sofas in your living room. Patent leather is a type of leather (duh!) that is coated with a high-gloss finish. After the normal tanning process and application of linseed oil, a polyurethane/acrylic solution is applied to the leather three times. So basically, its shiny and it’s tough!

And even better, the finish is usually water resistant if not water-proof. This makes it super easy to clean patent leather, even after storing the patent leather for a long time. (Yes, please!) Grab just a little leather cleaner and you’re good to go.

Oh and btw, finish patent leather goes allllll the way back to the 1800’s (wow!), when it was first introduced to the United States by Seth Boyden of New Jersey. Thanks to Seth Boyden (and some other’s along the way I assume), patent leather has been in commercial production ever since. Cool, right? No need to thank me for the little history lesson! Anyway, today the most popular type of patent leather is black patent leather and I am totally here for it.

Mix wool with shiny, metallic. And always mix leather and fabric. Pair suede and leather together just like peanut butter jelly for a simple, sexy combo. What can you pair with sequins? FROM DAY TO NIGHT

I took this outfit from day to night, while in New York for fashion week. During the day, I rocked these adorable, swoon-worthy Saint Laurent star booties. That night, I switched to a sleek pair of leather Christian Louboutin boots. You could totally throw on a pair of sneakers for a daytime soiree and transition to nighttime with a fun pair of heels or boots…throw on a pair of patterned tights, and voila! I didn’t own these at the time, but these Steve Madden velvet booties would be perfect with this outfit.

Y’all, this trend is SO HOT right now. I searched high and low for patent leather/vinyl skirts of all price points, and found some AMAZING options. Check out the red ones! SWOON!

THE 90’S CALLED…THEY WANT THEIR VELVET BACK

Velvet is LEGIT my favorite trend right now. Since the material is so thick, I love going the bodysuit route. Even the bodysuits tend to bunch up on the sides with the thick material, so you want to make sure it’s fitted. Worried about a muffin top? Totally get it, because I am rocking one in these pictures. EEK!! Opt for a high-waisted skirt or pair of pants to avoid this. So flattering and on trend. Here are my favorite velvet bodysuits…
