5 MOST COMMON RETINOL MYTHS DEBUNKED

It’s expensive, my skin will break out, it doesn’t work…blah blah blah. These are just a few of the retinol myths that I hear the most. And honestly, what I have always believed, personally, until I tested out Olay’s Retinol24 night serum for 4 weeks. So, today, I am here to answer your most frequently asked questions and debunk 5 common retinol myths.

First of all, what is the big deal about retinol? According to Olay, retinol is the #1 most searched skin care ingredient on Google, it’s the #1 most dermatologist recommended ingredient, and there have been more than 5,000 new retinol products launched globally since 2016. However, more than half of women who have used a retinol, gave up after less than one month. Reasons why they quit? They experienced irritation, it was too expensive, or they didn’t see results. Until Olay released their latest product: Retinol24 Night Serum. So, let’s talk about some of these retinol myths, shall we?

BUT RETINOL IS EXPENSIVE

Out of all the retinol myths I hear, this one is the most common. RETINOL IS EXPENSIVE. Yes, it CAN be expensive, just like anything else. But you don’t need to spend a ton of money to get an effective retinol product. The Olay Retinol24 Night Serum is super affordable and has been a game changer for me. After a single overnight treatment, I woke up with smoother, brighter skin. My makeup went on better, and my skin looked more awake than normal.

OK, BUT RETINOL WILL DEFINITELY IRRITATE AND/OR DRY OUT MY SKIN

Sure, some people experience dryness, peeling and redness with retinol products, but I did not with Retinol24. I don’t have a TON of experience with retinol, but I have tried 3-4 different brands in the past and didn’t break out with any of them. Retinol is an incredibly difficult ingredient to formulate as it degrades when exposed to air, sun, and heat. So, in my opinion, formulation is key. Olay’s formula, which contains vitamin B3 plus retinoid complex, actually hydrates better than the #1 bestselling retinol, which is why I believe my skin felt very hydrated after using the night serum, instead of dried out like many people have experienced with other products.

FINE, BUT ARE YOU SURE IT WILL WORK?

According to Olay, retinol works by encouraging your skin cells to turn over faster than they would normally, making way for new skin. Basically, it’s like spring cleaning for your skin: out with the old and in with the new.

There are a TON of retinol products out there. And every brand makes a different claim. However, it is important to find what works FOR YOU. There are different formulations, especially when it comes to retinol. Olay’s Night Serum has a proprietary blend of Vitamin B3 + Retinol complex that hydrates skin for 24 hours.

If you are wanting to try a retinol product but aren’t sure where to start, I recommend the Retinol24 Night Serum. It’s impactful, affordable, and easy to apply. Even after only 8 hours, I woke up with visible improvements in fine lines & wrinkles, smoothness, brightness, firming, dark spots, and pores. My skin looked YOUNGER.

DON’T PUT RETINOL AROUND YOUR EYES. YOUR SKIN IS TOO SENSITIVE.

I get it; this is a very common retinol myth. I am always super worried about irritating my under-eye area. I actually had a really bad reaction to an all-natural under-eye cream that broke me out for over a week. It SUCKED, but that area is very sensitive. Obviously, you don’t want to get the product IN your eye, but studies show that people get some of the best results with retinol when applying it under their eyes. Olay’s Retinol24 visibly firms, brightens, evens skin tone, and reduces the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and dark circles. It’s safe to use every night and is free of fragrance and dyes. Again, I have not had any irritation with this product.

YOU CAN’T USE RETINOL DAILY.

Ok, I am going to partially debunk this myth. YES, a lot of retinol-containing products cannot be used daily. In fact, overdoing it could leave you with red, flaky, and inflamed skin. However, Olay’s Retinol24 is formulated FOR daily use, using a proprietary blend of Vitamin B3 + Retinol complex, with no additional fillers, fragrances, or dyes. So, you get the potency of retinol without irritating fluff or filler. I love how hydrated my skin feels each morning. I always assumed I would wake up with super dry, flaky sin, but not with these products. Again, I recommend trying the night serum if you are trying to decide.

HOPEFULLY, THE RETINOL MYTHS YOU HAVE ALWAYS HEARD HAVE NOW BEEN DEBUNKED.
