Tis the season, right? I don’t know about you, but by January, I am ready to say ‘out with the old, in with the new.’ And this includes everything house-related as well. Today, I am showing you exactly how to reorganize and refresh your home for the new year.
UNDECK THE HALLS
That’s right, it’s time to take it down. Remove holiday decorations and go ahead and ORGANIZE them, instead of just throwing them in the basement/and attic. Ahem, preaching to the choir here. There are a ton of storage options to keep your decorations organized. I know, I know…it’s sad to see them go, but this is the first step to refresh your home for the new year.
REFRESH YOUR GREENERY REFRESH YOUR HOME
One of my favorite parts about the holiday season is draping my house with fresh greenery. Once you get rid of your holiday greenery, replace it with winter greens to remind yourself that spring is not too far away. I tend to use matte white and/or modern glasses vases to displace eucalyptus, cedar, and magnolia during the winter. This is an easy and beautiful way to refresh your home for the new year.
GET ALL THE KIDS “STUFF’ IN ORDER
There are so many beautiful storage options to house toys, shoes, etc. Make sure to utilize hidden spaces to store toys and gadgets, but also purchase a few baskets to hold the items they play with frequently. If your kids are like mine, they receive a bazillion toys for Christmas…looking at you, grandparents! This is a great time to donate older toys to kids in need. PRO TIP: Hide some of the toys they receive for Christmas, then bring them out once the new wears off of some of the other gifts they received. BOOM.
MAKE YOUR HOUSE SMELL AMAZING
There’s nothing like walking into a house filled with the smells of Christmas: fresh greenery, cookies in the oven, a burning fire. But once the holidays are over, don’t neglect continuing to make your house smell amazing. Replace Christmas candles with winter candles. Continue to burn your fire and bake cookies. Keep the smelly sneakers out of the main living area (#boymom). Ok, I agree. That all sounds like a lot of work.
Another idea is to deck your home with Febreze Plug Air Fresheners. These not only make your house smell amazing, but they literally clean the air. Each Febreze Plug gives you 1,200 hours of freshness! And for a limited time only at Sam’s Club, you can purchase a pack of Febreze Plugs that will last you 6 months! Personally, I love the Linen & Sky scent, but they also offer Mediterranean Lavender, Gain Original, and Hawaiian Aloha. The pack includes two oil warmers and four refills, BUT you gotta act quickly. These are only available for limited release. Head to Sam’s Club or samsclub.com to purchase the Febreze Plug Air Freshener Multi-Pack (or a few!) while supplies last. Then, simply plug into any outlet to start cleaning away the air you breathe!
#GOALS to Refresh Your Home
Every year I create my “word of the year.” Resolutions are great and all, but for me, I prefer to write my personal and professional goals based on my word of the year. This creates purpose and helps me hold myself accountable. This year, I plan on setting home goals as well. And I don’t mean the goal of buying a new house with a 2 car garage and a view. No, I mean cleaning goals, organizational goals, and general home goals, such as no phones at the dinner table. I challenge you to do the same. Remember, goals in writing are dreams with a deadline. What goals are you setting for your home in 2020?
