10 Plaid Dresses for Fall

As I was shopping for my fall wardrobe, I realized something has been missing from my closet for the last couple of years. PLAID DRESSES! Y’all, as I was shopping around I was inspired by so many great plaid pattern dresses and realized it’s been forever since I’ve shared a dressy look with this classic fall print. So, today, we’re going to change that.

I’ve compiled a list of my top 10 plaid dresses for this fall. Whether you like something traditional and trendy or something edgy and wild, I’ve got a look for you. I’m sure I am not the only one who has forgotten that you can make SUCH a fall fashion moment with a quality plaid dress. So, here, I’ll get on with it. Here are 10 fall plaid dresses I’m loving right now:

10 Plaid Dresses for Fall

Two Piece Plaid Sweater Set

This two piece sweater set includes a crewneck style knit sweater and a matching fitted skirt. It has a traditional plaid print in dramatic neutral tones. It’s black with brown stripes, which is a really trendy color combo. (More on black and brown outfit combos in an upcoming post!). For this look, I added a leather bean bag shoulder bag in black and fun leather cowgirl boots in black and white to finish it up!

Ellis Zip Front Plaid Dress

Let’s start with something totally NOT traditional. This modern spin on the plaid dress features a pleated skirt with a minimalist white and black plaid print. The bodice has a partial zipper and a bold leather collar. The back has a matching zipper, and it’s these little details that really elevate this dress and make it look SO classy.

Obviously, it’s a little cool for fall. It does have thicker, mid-weight fabric, but it’s sleeveless and short. But, have no fear, my friends, because fall is all about layers. Add on this urban nylon puffer jacket and knee-high black boots. Then, finish your outfit off with a plump quilted handbag. It’s sexy. It’s modern. And, it’s GLAM.

Tweed Shift Mini Dress

Tweed Shift Mini Dress

Here’s another one that’ll have you saying, “Girl, I’d freeze!” But, I think this dress totally works for fall. Tweed fabric is naturally heavy and rigid, and when it’s dark like this, it holds even more weight. Plus, the thick straps and shift skirt style provides a decent amount of coverage for a mini dress. Overall, it’s the perfect anchor for a show-stopping fall look. (It is dry clean only, though, which isn’t practical for everyone. So I just thought I’d let you know you now.)

To assemble a full outfit, wear a voluminous puff sleeve button up underneath. Your dress just got even more trendy! Rocking button-ups under dresses is totally in right now. Plus, the shirt gives you a lot more coverage for the fall season. Then, don’t forget your cowboy boots! A pair of tights can make it a little warmer (if needed), and this square crossbody can make it a little glammer (totally needed).

Groovy Long Sleeve Plaid Dress

This mod windowpane dress is 70’s inspired with big puffy sleeves and the classic tunic style. The plaid on this one is super subtle, so if you don’t normally love the bold print, this muted black-and-white option is perfect for you. To complete this retro ensemble, grab some white boots with a chunky heel and a gorgeous sherpa beret

Woodstock Trail Flannel Swing Dress

Swing dresses are always so cute and flattering. The fit and flare style defines your waist while giving you great curves! This flannel dress just hits all the right notes with its cut, style, and color! The green, blue, and orangey red is just FABULOUS and 1000% fall.

This dress also features a buttoned placket, tie waist, and cuffed sleeves. Again, the details are everything. Seriously obsessed with this dress! For styling, add knit white tights, brown ankle boots, and a wool hat. You can’t go wrong!

Windowpane Two-Piece Plaid Long Sleeve Dress

How about some workwear? Some new outfits for the office will help keep you energized and motivated as the season starts to change. This is a two-piece set with a lot of class! The plaid print is quiet and simple – all black with thin white lines running through.

It has an asymmetrical hem that hangs like loose ruffles, and it’s so cute! The blazer top is belted and features a plunging v-neck, both of which help define your figure to make a really flattering look. The bottom skirt reaches the knee and has a small cutout that keeps it appropriate but still a little sexy and edgy! With a good pair of heels, you’re ready to kill it!

Oversized Plaid Shirtdress

This shirtdress has a totally classic plaid print that uses red, green, and white. It’s oversized, with a collar and button-down front, so it gives definite dad vibes. However, it has a high-low hem and puffy short sleeves. It’s seriously just the right amount of feminine and masculine.

To style it for fall, try out these faux leather leggings. (Once you buy them, you’ll find a dozen uses for them! It’s the fashion staple you didn’t know you needed!) Then, pointed black boots, a stocking cap, and this black moto jacket! It’s grunge, but polished and chic. I love it!

Sequined Plaid Polo Dress

This Ralph Lauren polo dress is one of the most fun uses of plaid I’ve seen in a while! It’s full of sequins for a glistening finish. It has this rigid look, but it’s actually 100% cotton (and it’s hand-washed—no dry cleaning)! I LOVE the texture and the shimmering material, and styling it is super fun. As with most fall looks, you just need a sweater and a pair of boots

Tweed Babydoll Dress

This babydoll dress is in the traditional short style, but it’s made of tweed and has this gorgeous pumpkin color, so . . . HELLO, FALL! It has a square neckline and voluminous short sleeves that give your top half volume while the ruffled skirt accentuates the bottom! Those two things combined with the tight waist give you the perfect hourglass shape. Yes, please!

You could style this in a lot of ways. Since we’ve done a lot of formal looks, let’s do something more casual! Try sneakers, leg warmers, and a stocking cap! Now, that’s a look that could go anywhere!

Veronica Beard Sierra Ruched Shirtdress

Plaid dresses are perfect when you want equal parts comfort and style. This dress is a cotton blend shirt dress with tons of shape and visual interest. It has a knotted waist, a ruched skirt, and a button-down style. Plus, it has a pointed collar and long sleeves! With all these features, it just keeps giving.

I love the coverage and fit of this dress, and it’s super versatile. You could do workwear, date night attire, streetwear, or something super casual! To amplify this dress, add a sherpa trench coat, tall boots, a luxurious handbag, and a knotted headband. LOVE IT!

Plaid is always in style during the colder months, and a dress is a perfect way to rock it!

I hope this post helped you decide on a few new autumn wardrobe picks! Let me know in the comments which pieces you’ve decided to go with, and definitely link any other plaid dresses you’ve found! I can’t wait to see them. Until then, follow me on Insta and browse my blog for more style tips!
