Over the past couple of years, I have done the dirty work for you, testing out certain beauty procedures such as Botox and lip fillers. It’s a tough job, but somebody’s gotta do it! While I have not personally tried the CoolSculpting procedure (I have witnessed one LIVE though), I sat down with the AMAZING Dr. Sarah Sawyer at Dermatology and Laser of Alabama (DLA) to answer some of the top questions she receives about CoolSculpting. I met Dr. Sawyer after several of my friends referred me to her. I instantly fell in love with her and her staff! Every person I met was professional, genuine, and knowledgeable. And her office is absolutely beautiful. Not interested in CoolSculpting? She offers a wide range of services, including Botox (walk-in clinic on Thursdays from 11-2), Skin Rejuvenation, Spa Services, and other cosmetic procedures, such as injectables. And now to answer your CoolSculpting FAQS! As always, thank you SO much for reading! Make sure you are following along on Instagram for exclusive content there.

Q: How does CoolSculpting work and where on the body is it most effective?
A: CoolSculpting works by cryolipolysis, a mechanism that freezes fat cells to destroy them. The applicator is a hand held device that is placed over a “pinchable” area of fat. Treatable locations are abs, flanks, arms, legs, back, and double chins.
Q: Does it hurt?
A: The first few minutes can be uncomfortable while the device is “grabbing” the location to be treated. After that, the treatment is quite comfortable.
Q: How long does it take?
A: Each cycle is 35-75 minutes, depending on the location being treated.
Q: How long until results are noticed?
A: Somewhere between 1-2 months.
Q: Who is the best candidate for the procedure?
A: Although most anyone can be treated, the number of cycles needed depends on the amount of fat the patient would like to have removed. Therefore, more fat requires more time (and cost!) People who are at or within 20 pounds of their ideal weight generally have the best results.
Q: Why Dermatology & Laser of Alabama (DLA) for this?
A: DLA was a pioneer in Alabama for this and other body shaping procedures. We have performed over 7500 body shaping procedures since we began offering these technologies almost 10 years ago. We now have 2 CoolSculpting machines to use at once and 5 other body shaping devices. In addition, we have other technology that makes CoolSculpting work better and faster. ZWave and Cellutone are shockwave technologies that we do at no extra charge after CoolSculpting to:
1) Remove treated fat from the area that day instead of relying exclusively on your body’s lymphatic drainage, which can take longer and possibly leave fat in the area.
2) Treat skin and cellulite in the treatment area to give smoother, better results and tighter skin. One study found that these devices improve CoolSculpting results from 10-40%!
3) Painlessly massage the area after treatment. Other practices use hand massage after the CoolSculpting procedure which is painful and less effective.
Q: How much does CoolSculpting cost?
A: We charge by cycle, the cycles start at $750 each but cost decreases to $500 per cycle if several cycles are purchased. Also, Dr. Sawyer has been gracious enough to offer a 10% discount off your first CoolSculpting treatment or package. Just mention Life Lutzurious and this post to receive your discount!
Q: What if I want a consult for my specific needs?
A: Body consults at DLA are complimentary and our telephone number for appointments is (205) 870-3303.
