What I Packed for Costa Rica

Spring has officially arrived and I don’t know about you, but when this season rolls around vacation starts becoming top of mind. I think with the weather heating up and people getting more out and about I’m always ready to go somewhere! Luckily, we DID have a spring break trip planned and recently just got back from a family trip in Costa Rica! It was such an amazing trip and it was so fun to take the boys somewhere new and different. I always enjoy watching them explore and have fun, but I also got some good mama time too and was able to spend time by the pool with a few drinks and snacks 😉

I always think it’s so fun heading out somewhere different than where we live because I can wear fun things I wouldn’t normally wear for day-to-day. I’ll be honest, during my week I’m typically in workwear or workout clothes, so being able to dress up and put on tropical-feeling pieces was the best!!

I know many of you ladies are probably heading out on vacations of your own this spring and summer, so I wanted to share with you what I packed for Costa Rica in today’s blog post! I tried to include a good mix of fun yet practical, and not pack TOO much (it usually is a struggle for me ha) and I think it was a success this time around. I also included some of the swimwear I packed but if you’re looking for a heftier swim roundup don’t miss my post here on all of the swimwear and coverups you need on rotation this season. Hopefully, this can give you some inspiration for upcoming trips of your own and will make packing feel a little less daunting!

Okay first things first, let’s jump into clothes and swim. Now being somewhere tropical you have to plan for the humidity so I brought a lot of pieces that were lightweight and breezy. This can be done in an array of different ways from bringing along things that have cutouts to packing items with breathable fabrics like linen. I brought a good mix of everything AND made sure to pack things that I could style a few different ways. Here are some of my favorite things that came with me to Costa Rica:

White Linen Dress: This dress was so comfortable to wear because of its lightweight linen fabric. I also loved that it was I piece I could pair with flat sandals for a casual look or make it a little dressier with heels and extra accessories!

Crochet Coverup: Crochet is an immediate YES from me for beach vacations and this coverup was my go-to during the trip. It still showed off my swimwear and was perfect to wear around the resort. I’ll be wearing this all spring and summer!

Shimmer Button-Up: I really loved this top because it doubled as a swim coverup and a top to wear out! The hint of sparkle was fun, too.

Printed Long-Sleeve Dress: The print on this dress is so fun and perfect for Costa Rica (or anywhere by the beach!). I also really liked that it had long sleeves so I wasn’t too cold in the evenings when it got a little chilly outside.

Now let’s move on to shoes and accessories. It can be a little difficult to pack shoes and accessories because they take up a lot of space in your luggage, so you really have to narrow down what you’ll actually wear and use. That being said, of course, you want to have fun shoes and accessories on vacay, so I recommend planning your looks in advance! That way, you can plan what shoe, bag, and accessory you’ll be wearing with each outfit preventing overpacking (but still allowing you to bring some fun stuff). Here are some of the shoes and accessories I packed for our trip:

Oversized Sunnies: Of course, sunglasses were a MUST and I’m so glad I brought this pair. I love an oversized look and these protected my face from the sun all day!

Wide-Brim Hat: Traveling with hats can be a pain but I always find it so worth it because I wore this hat so much. Great for a messy hair day, for an extra accessory for your look, or to shield your skin from the sun.

Gucci Flat Sandals: These sandals were such a great, everyday pair that I could slip on with anything. Worked for my dinner looks and also worked when we headed out to the pool for the day! If you’re going to bring sandals, definitely bring something easy and comfy.

Beaded Bag: This beaded bag was so great to bring to our dinners out. I really didn’t need to hold much other than the essentials so the size did the trick. Plus, this was such a fun accessory to wear and helped give my outfits that tropical look.
