CHAOS, PERSPECTIVE…OH, AND HAUTE HIPPIE

Hey loves! I hope you all had a FABULOUS week! This outfit was supposed to be up last week, but you know, life and stuff. Once again, this started as a fashion post and ended up as a lesson in life. I am unintentionally talking CHAOS, PERSPECTIVE, AND HAUTE HIPPIE all in one. I mean, how many topics can one post contain? I’ve probably shutdown Google analytics with this one.

Have you guys ever had a gut check moment that really makes you rethink your priorities and your perspective on life? Well, I have had two of those moments recently. Sometimes we allow the hustle and bustle, the busyness, and the chaos to rule our existence. Every year I tell myself I am going to be more PROACTIVE, more STRATEGIC, and more INTENTIONAL (remember that post?). While I have made SOME improvements, I still feel like I allow the chaos to take over. Maybe it’s the drama queen in me or maybe I truly am that busy, but living life like that is just not fun. Sure, it’s both exciting and stressful, and every day is different. But eventually the chaos catches up to you, and stops you in your tracks. Literally.

Ryan’s parents had planned an amazing trip for us down to 30A, one our FAV vacation spots. Well, about 2 weeks prior, I got sick. Shocker. Any germ that exists in daycare, Asher brings home, and I get sick. It never fails…he just may be the cutest carrier monkey in the world. Anyways, I was in the middle of a crazy travel jaunt (Is this even the right context for this word? I doubt it, but I am rolling with it.) I thought it was a sinus infection, so I just kept doing my thing. And by doing my thing, that meant 16-18 hour work days, flights and hotels every week, and non-stop going on the weekends. After about two weeks, I was traveling to Boston, and I felt SO BAD. So, I told myself…go straight to the hotel and SLEEP. Of course I woke up all night because I felt so bad. The next morning, I woke up feeling like death. I had a full day ahead of me, so I attended my meetings, went out to dinner, and went straight to the hotel. “I’ll get a good night’s sleep, and I’ll feel much better in the morning” is what I told Ryan. Wrong. Again, I woke up feeling even worse. As I traveled home that night, I knew we were leaving for vacation on Sunday, but I had 2 jam packed days on Thursday and Friday. I thought maybe this could be pneumonia but I wasn’t sure. The hubs begged me to get some rest and rearrange my schedule but I “just couldn’t.” I woke up Thursday morning and went straight to the doctor. She told me I more than likely had developed full blown pneumonia. She threatened me with a hospital stay if I didn’t promise to rest. I canceled my next 2 days, and rested up for our trip.

During our trip, I rested. Really rested. I only worked about an hour or two a day. I didn’t even blog. I simply relaxed. And you know what I realized? It’s not the end of the world if you don’t get everything done. Everything will be ok, if you stop and enjoy what’s in front of you once in awhile.

Of course now, I am still paying for that week of R&R but it was worth it. The chaos has ensued again, but I am planning ahead more and enjoying Saturday’s with Ryan and Asher-man. My second gut-check moment happened last Friday at 5:04PM. More on that one next time. I’ll get to the outfit post for now. Hopefully, you stopped reading after the 2nd paragraph and just skipped down to the pretty pictures. 😉

Someone commented on my Instagram that I can rock sneakers with everything. Well, I don’t know if I am “rocking it” correctly or not, but I am OBSESSED. I try to incorporate a sneaker into every outfit! Also, I have LIVED in this skirt. It is hands down THE MOST VERSATILE piece of clothing in my closet. If there is one thing you purchase from this post, make sure this is it. It works beautifully with this Haute Hippie silk shirt, but also goes perfectly with a button up and blazer for the office. I also paired a cute cropped peplum with this skirt for date night when we were on vacation (check out IG to see this look HERE).

For this look, I have paired with my Stuart Weitzman nude sandals (don’t worry, I linked a really good budget-friendly pair at the end of the post) for a dressier option and with my favorite Rag & Bone sneaks for a more casual, chic option. The key to this outfit is TEXTURE. The silk pairs really well with the thick ribbed skirt, and the leather sandals and sneaks compliment both pieces. Keep your jewelry simple, and let the back of this shirt do the talking.  I know a lot of you do not want to spend $200+ for a shirt.  Would it be helpful if I started posting a SPLURGE vs SAVE option?  I’ll test that out with this post to see if you guys like it.  Please let me know…your feedback is so important to me!  I hope you all have a FABULOUS day and weekend.  And remember, take a few minutes to escape the chaos and JUST BE.  Til next time…
